Wood is a multi-purpose energy carrier. World wide wood plays an essential role as fuel for cooking and heating – and is besde dung one of the few available energy carriers for a substantial share of world population. From wood fuel for combustion engines is prepared. And wood is used as fuel in combined heat and power plants.

Wood is multi-purpose raw material as well. For construction of houses, fabrication of furniture or as primary matter for paper production, a large demand arises. Not to forget: Even the energy carriers hard and soft coal are nothing else than fossil residues of boreal forests.
